4 Different Tyre Tread Patterns

Not many of us really pay attention to the tyres of our vehicles. We pay attention mainly to our vehicle but it is actually the patterns on the black tyres of our vehicle which ensure our smooth drive on the roads.

The different tyre tread patterns are built to deal with different road conditions and driving styles. Some tyres help in increasing the road traction while some help in expelling small stones. In fact, some tyres are made for aquaplaning resistance. Therefore, the tyre patterns engraved on the tyres are not just a design but also solve a lot of issues while driving. The performance of the tyres as well the drivers relies heavily on them.

Symmetrical Tyre Tread Patterns: Unlike the directional tyre tread pattern, they can be fitted and rotated in either direction. This is so because both halves of the tyre are similar. They offer great road-holding and are particularly quiet. Their low-rolling resistance ensures that fuel consumption is reduced and the lifetime of the tyre is extended. They are mainly employed for driving commercial vehicles. They are cost-efficient and provide good value for money mainly for those who drive over shorter distances.

Asymmetrical Tyre Tread Patterns: One unique feature of these tyres is that they have different tread patterns on inner and outer shoulders as each side provides a different benefit. While the inner sides of the tyre offer water displacement and aquaplaning protection, the outer sides, owing to their rigid tread blocks, provide lateral stiffness which gives one a better grip while driving especially on dry surfaces. Due to these reasons, high performing hatchbacks and sporting cars use this type of tyres. Moreover, the even stiffness of the pattern blocks makes sure that there is no interior noise. However, it also requires correct fitting. The word “outside” must face on the outside of the car.

Flow-optimized Asymmetrical Tyre Tread Patterns: Combining the merits of asymmetrical and directional tyre tread patterns, a flow-optimized asymmetrical tread pattern has been designed. They not only offer great protection against aquaplaning but also a nice grip in wet conditions. Its Shark Skin Technology lowers flow resistance and accelerates water drainage from the surface of the tyre. The outer shoulders provide precise handling when cornering.

Whether, it’s mud, snow, ice-water or smooth pavement, one can drive comfortably only when the tread pattern of the vehicle is suitable for the given condition.
